March Updates: SLCC FanXperience Schedule & Redneck Eldritch Anthology

SARAH-E-SEELEY

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be on two awesome panels for Salt Lake Comic Con FanXperience, taking place March 24-26 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. If you’re going to this amazing fan event, please do come listen to me, and to other authors and artists, as we discuss the Real Science in Science Fiction and the Universe of H.P. Lovecraft! The more people we have attending our panels, the more inclined event orchestrators will be to bring back these topics–and us contributors–again next year. So join us! And if you come to my panels, I might just bring some squishy foam brains to toss out that shamelessly plug my author blog. More on that later…

Here is my schedule!

56d4b7f6-daf8-4ac7-b4f0-7184ac1c1072

  • Thursday, March 24 — 5:00 PM: Real Science in Sci-Fi Literature and Film (Room 255F)
Charlie Pulsipher, Sarah E. Seeley, John Steiner, Eric Swedin, Howard Tayler

56d4c18d-4e10-4022-bc88-048bac1c1072

  • Saturday, March 26 — 8:00 PM: “Not Meant to Voyage Far”: Sceince in the Universe of H.P. Lovecraft (Room 255B)
Nathan Croft, Sean Hoade, Sarah E. Seeley, Nathan Shumate, Eric Swedin, David J. West

Isn’t the shout-out artwork for these panels gorgeous? I’m so excited! And I will be selling books all three days at the Xchyler Publishing booth (Booth#ToBeDetermined in the vendors room). You can find more info by visiting saltlakecomiccon.com or browsing the panels here: http://saltlakecomiccon.com/fanx-2016-schedule/. I also keep my schedules for various events under my Events tab.

Oh, yes, and I mentioned squishy brains… Come to my panels, and the Xchyler Publishing booth, and I may give you a little souvenir that will look something like this (haven’t quite decided on the final design yet) (Now showing the updated design). I’ll even sign it for you, if you’d like–no purchase necessary! If you’re not into brains, no worries–I will also have a variety of bookmarks that shamelessly plug my fiction available for you to take at your leisure. 🙂

Redneck Eldrtich News

In honor of the forthcoming Redneck Eldritch anthology, a collection of Lovecraftian horror novelettes and shorts set in abandoned mines, small towns, weird trucks, creepy outhouses, and questionable swimming holes, Cold Fusion Media will be releasing story “sneak peeks” on their blog once a week until the collection comes out. You can check out the first sampler, “A Hole in the World” by Ian Welke, here: http://coldfusionmedia.us/redneck-eldritch-sneak-peek-a-hole-in-the-world-by-ian-welke/.

(“Signal Boost is Appreciated” Cover Concept Art by Carter Reid)

The anthology is expected to come out in time for the World Horror Convention at the end of April. My story, “Mine of the Damned Gods,” is a [Lovecraftian-redneck] retelling of Oedipus Rex that will appear in this collection alongside stories by several fine authors, including D.J. Butler, Garrett Calcaterra, Jaleta Clegg, Robert J. Defendi, Steve Diamond, David Dunwoody, Eric Jepson, Robert Masterson, Nathan Shumate (our collaborator), Scott William Taylor, Brad R. Torgersen, David J. West, SM Williams, and more. (I’ll let you know if a sample of my story is selected to go up on the Cold Fusion Media site so you can go check it out).

Thank you to all my friends and followers who keep up with me here on my blog and my social media accounts. Your support means the world to me, and I’m off to a very exciting start this year.

Press Release for The 2016 World Horror Convention

half-page-black-1

As a member of the Utah chapter of the HWA, I wanted to share this official press release on The World Horror Convention, coming to Provo at the end of April. Check it out! 😀

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Horror Comes to Utah!

Provo, Utah.

The World Horror Convention, an international gathering of horror writers, artists, editors, filmmakers, and fans, will converge on the Provo Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Provo, Utah, April 28 to May 1, 2016.  This premiere event has been to Salt Lake City twice.  For the third, and final, appearance in Utah, it will be in Provo.

WHC, a semi-professional conference, will have panels and presentations featuring professionals in the field on subjects as diverse as current literature, true crime, horror poetry, dark fantasy, horror art, Vincent Price, the developmental stages of a serial killer, Cracking the Story Code, Police Procedurals for Writers, and the dark side of Disney.  A special “killer tea” will feature a keynote speaker who will help authors find creative ways to kill people with food.  The event includes an art show, vendors’ room, horror film festival, kaffeeklatsches, and book signing by 100 horror authors.  Workshops and pitch sessions will be available for writers and an artist alley will showcase artists at work.  Guests will also have the opportunity to go on a real ghost hunt.

The event will feature some of the top authors in horror fiction, including Darren Shan, Sarah Pinborough, Jack Ketchum, Joe McKinney, Brian Keene, Kevin J. Anderson, Michaelbrent Collings, Michael Arnzen, and Dan Wells.  It will also feature poet Linda Addison, cover and concept artist Keith Thompson, graphic novel and cover artist, Carter Reid and scholar, editor and author, Michael R. Collings.  In addition, Victoria Price, daughter of famed actor Vincent Price, will do a presentation on her father and have some of his work available for sale.  There will also be a number of academic presentations on true crime.

The World Horror Convention, established in 1991, is the premiere event for horror fans and professionals alike.  It is held in a different location every year and celebrates the horror genre.  The 2016 World Horror Convention will showcase a growing community of professional authors and artists in Utah as well as a number of guests from around the world..

Help Utah welcome the world to The ZomBee State!  Go to http://whc2016.org for more information on the convention and how to become a member.

**The art show and vendors’ room will also be open to the public, so anyone can stop by and look at what’s for sale.

In A. J. Capbell’s Sigil of The Wyrm, a young man named Richard Lampton is given a mysterious ring at his uncle’s funeral. From there he is plunged into a magical world hidden among our own, and confronts a generational curse in which a mysterious sea serpent hunts the next hero in the family line to challenge it.

This urban fantasy is full of mystery and monster-hunting fun. My favorite part of the adventure was the diary Richard’s ancestors kept about their encounters with the Wyrm, particularly the dissections one ancestor did to try and understand the anatomy as well as the magical nature of the creature that just won’t go away. Richard’s family was full of curious, magic-wielding personalities. I also loved his little jackdaw companion “Bobble,” who’s own personality was entertaining. Fantasy readers will enjoy the escape.
